Vegetation Management Scientist - POSITION FILLED
Carolina Silvics, Inc. is seeking a self-motivated employee who enjoys working outdoors, is willing to travel regularly within North Carolina, and is committed to providing high quality work that exceeds our clients expectations. This position provides leadership and support for all work related to vegetation management on ecological restoration sites throughout North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Vegetation Management Scientist is responsible for performing field work and directing the work of others while operating within specified but varying budgets. Applicants should have very strong plant identification skills and function well working alone, as a team leader, and as a team member. The scientist must be able to constantly adapt to changing environments and client requirements. This is an exempt position. Early start and extended work hours will be routine. Work will be 90% or greater in the field, typically in remote locations, often in challenging environments, and sometimes alone. Most work will be in North Carolina but some out-of-state travel will be required. Overnight travel will be routine. Willingness to live in northeastern NC or the triangle-area required.

Education and Job Experience: Bachelor's degree in Forestry or related field at minimum; Strong plant identification skills preferred; Working knowledge of vegetation management and proper herbicide use and techniques desired; Bilingual in Spanish desired; Direct experience with contractor's work practices is desired; Direct experience in budgeting and budgeting concepts is desired. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong planning, organizing and problem solving skills; Effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to carry a 50-lb pack thru challenging terrain; Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills; Effective supervision and motivational skills; Demonstrated ability to set goals and manage resources within specified budgets.
Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with experience
